The alternatives, fairly

Good options exist. Here is what each is for.

Some of these are better than we are for some children, and we say which. Then what is different about 0 to 100, what we do not have yet, and what everything costs, with the source and date of every price.

When another choice is the better one.

Math Academy

Adaptive self-study software · Grade 4 through university
The better choice if
A self-driven child of about ten or older who wants to move fast. It is a complete adaptive course from grade 4 into university mathematics, with far more finished lessons than we have, and families speak well of it.
Where 0 to 100 differs
We begin at age four, charge one price for every child, and give parents a weekly brief that says plainly what is not yet known. Math Academy has the longer track record.

$49 a month per student; no sibling discount; 30-day money-back guaranteeVendor pricing page and FAQ (mathacademy.com). Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Beast Academy Online

Puzzle-based curriculum software · About 6 to 13
The better choice if
A child of six to thirteen who loves puzzles. From the Art of Problem Solving team, it is rigorous, well regarded and a fraction of our price.
Where 0 to 100 differs
We continue to age eighteen, mark the source and evidence of every teaching choice, and report Secure only on spaced evidence. Beast Academy costs far less.

$99.99 a year or $15.99 a month; each sibling $64.99 a yearVendor help page (help.beastacademy.com), updated 17 Dec 2025. Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Khanmigo (for parents)

AI tutor over Khan Academy content · School ages, broad coverage
The better choice if
The broadest coverage at the lowest price. Khan Academy's library with an AI tutor, parent alerts and chat history, for up to ten children.
Where 0 to 100 differs
We are one designed sequence with a calm, short daily session and an honest mastery record, rather than a library with a tutor beside it. Khanmigo costs about a twelfth of our price.

$44 a year or $4 a month, for up to ten childrenVendor page (khanmigo.ai/parents). Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Synthesis Tutor

Game-like tutor for young children · About 5 to 11
The better choice if
A child of five to eight who needs mathematics to feel like play before anything else. It is very engaging.
Where 0 to 100 differs
We run from four to eighteen and use no game mechanics at all. That calm design is deliberate, and it is not yet tested with children under ten.

About $25 to $45 a month; the vendor's own page shows conflicting pricesVendor pricing page (synthesis.com/pricing). Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Russian School of Mathematics

Live weekly class, online or in a center · School ages
The better choice if
You want a live teacher and a weekly class with real rigor, in the Russian tradition. A person who knows your child is something no software replaces.
Where 0 to 100 differs
Family has no live teacher (Guided adds a monthly review with a math educator). We are fifteen minutes a day at home, at one price for every child.

Not published by RSM (centers quote on request). A third party reports online classes from about $41.50 eachThird-party report: brighterly.com, itself a tutoring company that competes with RSM, 8 Oct 2026. Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Mathnasium

In-person learning center · School ages
The better choice if
You want someone nearby, outside the home, who sees your child in person and is accountable for showing up.
Where 0 to 100 differs
We cost a fraction per family and show the evidence behind every status. But there is no person in the room, and for some children that is the whole point of a center.

Not published by Mathnasium (each center sets its own). A third party reports about $250 to $400 a month in suburban centers, $150 to $500 overallThird-party report: myengineeringbuddy.com, a tutoring seller, 12 Jul 2026. Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Kumon

Daily worksheets with a local center · School ages
The better choice if
You want steady daily practice in calculation, supervised by a center near home.
Where 0 to 100 differs
Our full lessons (58 so far) teach each idea three ways (See it, Use it, Prove it), with reasoning and proof alongside fluency; the other ideas have a guided brief. One price covers every child.

Not published nationally (each center sets its own). A third party reports about $130 to $220 a month per subjectThird-party report: thepricer.org, 30 Sep 2026. Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Free AI tutors

General assistants in study mode · Any
The better choice if
A question tonight. They explain step by step, patiently, at no cost.
Where 0 to 100 differs
They follow no sequence, keep no record of what is secure, and send a parent no report. Ours is a curriculum with an honest account of what has been learned.

Free: ChatGPT study mode and Gemini Guided LearningOpenAI (study mode, 29 Jul 2025); Google (Guided Learning, 6 Aug 2025). Checked 13 Oct 2026.

Where 0 to 100 differs

Five things no other program we checked combines.

Each is a design choice you can inspect in the trial, not a result we can yet prove.

  1. One sequence, from four to eighteen

First counting to the end of school in one connected order: 271 school ideas, each placed after the ideas it needs. Math Academy begins at grade 4; Beast Academy stops at about thirteen; Synthesis at about eleven.

  2. One price for the whole family

$49 a month covers every child. With two children that is $24.50 per child, against $49 per student at Math Academy.

  3. A weekly brief that admits what it does not know

The Family room says, in plain English, what is secure, what is in progress, and what is not yet known. Unknown is never shown as zero, and Secure needs two good sessions a day apart.

  4. The source and evidence of every method

Every teaching choice carries a hallmark (RU, US or RU·US) and an evidence grade, weak ones included. Of our 271 concept decisions, 8 rest on strong evidence; we show you which.

  5. Russian depth, American breadth

Bar models, the equals sign as balance and early proof from the Russian school; fractions on the number line, data and modeling from the American. Each of the 58 full lessons teaches its idea three ways (See it, Use it, Prove it); the other ideas have a guided brief for now.

What we do not have

The plain account, before you choose.

These numbers are read from the app itself each time this site is built, so they cannot drift from what your child would see.

outcome studies so far
  • No outcome study yet. No child has completed a year with us, so we cannot show you results about ourselves. We plan to study outcomes with founding families and will publish what we find, good or bad.
  • Most ideas do not yet have a full lesson. 58 of 271 do (21%). The rest have a guided brief, and the app always says which kind you are looking at.
  • A new name. No track record, no reviews you can read elsewhere, no awards. The trial is the honest way to judge us.
  • No live teacher in Family. Guided adds a monthly review with a math educator, for 40 families.
  • Progress follows a child only with an account. Family accounts are new; without one, progress lives in one browser and can be downloaded and moved by hand.

What each costs

Prices, per child, per month.

To compare like with like, every price is shown for one child for one month. Programs that charge for each child cost more with each one; ours does not.

Prices checked 13 Oct 2026, mostly on the vendors’ own pages; where a vendor does not publish prices we used the secondary source named, which can be out of date or come from a competitor. Monthly figures for annual or per-class prices are our arithmetic. Prices vary by location and change often; tell us at the address below if one is wrong and we will correct it.
